If you get a chance to meet the legendary clubmaker Bob Vokey, chances are you will walk away feeling like you were talking to an old friend. Known for his work ethic and innovation, Bob is the salt of the earth and one of golf's true master craftsman.

Born in Verdun, Canada, in 1939, his father, Walter, was a precision tool and die maker, an avid golfer, and a relentless tinkerer with his clubs. Bob caught the golf bug from him. He left Verdun in 1964 for Carlsbad, California, and by 1976 he had his own custom shop. Tour pros found him quickly. That work grew his reputation with various golf club makers before he landed at Titleist in 1996. His first project there: the Titanium 975D driver. The wedges and the innovation in grinds followed shortly there after to much success.

Bob is a hardworking man whose passion for golf continues to inspire everyone he meets. We sat down in Northern California to hear more about what inspires him to keep pushing the evolution of Vokey Wedges at Titleist. So many of us know the name Vokey and recognize the name stamped in metal, but there's nothing quite like hearing from Bob directly. His journey in golf and inspiration for some of the most famous wedges (and grinds) are the work of a guy who never stopped tinkering.

In the first episode of our series In Their Own Words, we check in with the people who inspire us the most.
