The Masters on Film

Capturing the emotion of the Masters with photography's most expressive format.
by Michael Williams

There are few places that carry more emotional weight than Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters Tournament. It's a place of reverence and connection, of excitement and quiet affection. There's no better place to be than April in Augusta.

This week, I went to Georgia to reaffirm my affection for the Masters Tournament. I was there at the 90th Masters to capture the scene on film and share my affinity for the Tournament and the medium.

“Capturing the Masters experience on film presents a wonderful opportunity to eschew technology for a moment and embrace a slightly more emotional format. The scenes at the Masters Tournament provide the perfect setting for film because they are so familiar to so many. The green and white umbrellas, the contrast between the yellow of the flag and the green of the grass. The pure white of the bunkers with their sharp edges and the flowing curves of the greens. We know the long shadows cast by the nourishing light of April in Georgia intimately. We hold these views close in our hearts, and film has a special way of activating those emotions.” You can read the full story on Masters.com.

We alluded to the project briefly in our Central Division Masters podcast from August, which you can listen to here.
