Why think about life when you can dream about golf? Welcome to another edition of Sunday Scaries, where we help to offset the light dread of the week with the allure of a beautiful golf course.

Sometimes I wear my hat from Prestwick, and random strangers will come up to me and comment about the iron shot on the opening hole. Some like me find it exhilarating, others see it as a true nightmare. There's no hole in golf I want to escape from faster than the opener at Prestwick. It's always a "Get a par and get out of here" mindset. I love the excitement of that opener. Since my first round there, Prestwick has held a place in my heart as my most beloved golf course.

I know all of the shots on this golf course deep in my heart. The 230-yard cut into the 3rd green (if you're lucky). If you bail out left on Pow Burn, then you absolutely can't put it into the water on the second shot, or shame will befall your family for 1000 years (only 998 more to go for my relatives). The beauty of the blind shot on Himalayas. The difficulty of holding the fairway on the 6th and then trying to get the distance just right on the approach to that green. I'm inspired by the approach to the green on the 13th, which is the most difficult green to hold on the course. In my dreams, I always hit a perfect iron shot to hold that green. In reality, I often struggle to even chip onto it. Soon after, you get into the blind approach at Narrows, which requires precision and solid placement. Then there is another, but friendlier, blind approach on the second shot over the Alps to the 17th green, which is one of my favorite visual holes on earth.

With its quirk and charm, I bonded with Prestwick immediately. It's not a long course, and the driver stays in the bag longer than some players might like. When you consider the combination of skill and luck, the membership, a lunch in such a distinguished room and all of the other details, there's no place quite like it.
