The Dash

The inaugural Old Ghosts outing: two days on the southern Maine coast.
by Taylor Stacey

The Dash was a schooner built in Freeport, Maine, in 1813. During the War of 1812, it became one of the most feared American ships on the coast, slipping past British blockades of Portland Harbor with ease thanks to her speed. One January day in 1815, The Dash raced another vessel out of the harbor, quickly disappearing ahead before a Nor’easter rolled in. She was never seen again. Legend has it the ghost ship still patrols the waters of Casco Bay.

Two centuries later, we’re chasing her up the coast.

The Dash is the inaugural Old Ghosts outing: two days on the southern Maine coast on June 1–2, 2026. Abenaqui Country Club on Monday morning. Cape Arundel Golf Club on Tuesday. A lobster bake and the first Old Ghosts Roundtable in Kennebunkport in between. Join us and a few friends in one of our favorite places on the planet.

That’s the shape of it. All of the details are here the event page where you can sign up and make a plan to be there.

Our first running of The Dash is worth the trip to the coast. Historic golf architecture. Seaside Maine. Good people, plus lobster. What more could we ask for?

Kennebunkport and Cape Porpoise are an incredible part of the world, embodying the best of what coastal Maine has to offer. Early summer in this part of the world is the ideal time to visit before the high summer rush.
